Keith Drury (kdrury@indwes.edu)
served The Wesleyan Church headquarters in Christian Education and Youth
leadership for 24 years before coming to Indiana Wesleyan University where
he specializes in teaching practical ministry courses. He was born in
Warren, PA, the son of a pastor and district superintendent, and planned
to become a forest ranger until he was called to the ministry as a college
freshman. He proposed to Sharon Bailey on his first date (she said yes)
and they have two sons.
After serving as
the pastor of a rural Pennsylvania church, and later a New Jersey suburban
church, he joined the Wesleyan Church's headquarters in Christian education
and youth work. During that time, he served the Wesleyan Church as Director
of Midweek clubs (1972-78); Director of YES CORPS, a young adult missions
effort (1972-75); Assistant General Director of Youth (1976-78); Executive
Editor of Curriculum (1976-78); General Director of Youth (1980-88); and,
following a two-year stint teaching Christian Education at Indiana Wesleyan
University (1988-90) as The Wesleyan Church's Director of Local Church
Education(1990-96). He returned to IWU as an Assistant Professor of Religion
in 1996.
Keith Drury has
more than a dozen books and manuals published and translated into English,
Spanish, French, and Japanese. Some of his more widely circulated books
include Holiness for Ordinary People, Spiritual Disciplines for Ordinary
People, Money, Sex, & Spiritual Power, and So, What Do You Think? He has
published more than 500 other articles and writes a weekly column on the
Internet posted at /misc/tuesday. His personal hobbies include backpacking
and canoeing. He has hiked the entire Appalachian Trail and canoed the
entire Missouri River. His passion in teaching includes courses in church
leadership, worship, discipleship, spiritual formation, Christian education,
and practical applied ministry.
